Chesil Info Centre - The Porsche
Situation - Looks familiar....
You may have noticed that the Chesil Speedster
bears a little more than a passing resemblance to a Porsche
356 Speedster. The technical reason for this is that it is a
replica of a Porsche 356 Speedster.
Most Chesil customers buy a Chesil Speedster because they would
love to own an original Porsche 356 Speedster but cannot afford
the asking price, nor possibly have the skill and time available
in which to keep it in running order.
An increasing number of customers who are not classic car enthusiasts
buy a Chesil Speedster because they like its appearance and
are quite happy to drive it with its original Chesil badges
in place.
All factory-built Chesil Speedsters are badged and sold as Chesil
Speedsters. It is widely known that replica Porsche badges are
available and can be (and often are) fitted by customers after
they have taken delivery of, or finished building their Chesil
Speedster.
Did you know....?
Ferdinand Porsche also designed the VW Beetle. When he went
on to design his own car he borrowed many parts from the VW
production line. The relationship between the VW Beetle and
the Porsche 356 was very close.
Well into the 959 era there were still a few common parts between
the Beetle and its high performance relative.
