Chesil Info Centre - SPECIFICATIONS
BODY - Unstressed GRP moulding with integral box section steel
tube chassis. Special strengthening materials to increase body strength
and comprehensive anti-rust treatment on all metal parts. Fully painted
to the highest standards by skilled coach workers, using the latest
techniques. Choice of colour.
CHASSIS - VW Beetle, jig mounted and shortened
by 10 3/4". Fully reconditioned using new floorpan halves and framehead.
Sandblasted, primed, sealed, painted and rust-proofed using high quality
materials. Built up to full rolling specification using new parts.
Choice of independent rear suspension over the more authentic swing
axle specification.
ENGINES - A new Arnie Levics built twin port
VW Type 1 with all new ancillaries. Options of 1600cc 60bhp, 1800cc
90bhp and 2000cc 110bhp.
GEARBOX - VW Type 1 Transaxle, 4 speed. Reconditioned
using new mountings, gaiters, wheel bearings, oil seals and back plates.
Optional high ratio.
SUSPENSION, FRONT: Independent by torsion
beam and trailing arms.
SUSPENSION, REAR: Independent by torsion
bars with swing axle/trailing arm, or optional independent/trailing
arm with CV jointed driveshafts.
BRAKES, FRONT: Discs.
BRAKES, REAR: Drums.
WHEELS - 15"x5.5" with 195/60 15 tyres.
PERFORMANCE - Depending on final ratio, around
100mph for an 1800cc 90bhp, with 0-60 in around 9 seconds and approximately
35mpg under average use. 1600cc - 90mph, 38mpg; 2000cc - 105mph, 25mpg.
UPHOLSTERY - Hand made to the highest standards
by top class upholsterers. Choice of vinyl or leather upholstery;
choice of upholstery colour. Optional seat styles.
CARPET - Specially tailored for the Chesil
Speedster. All exposed edges bound. Choice of colour.
TRIM & BRIGHTWORK - Using reproduction replica
parts for bodywork, interior and dashboard gauges. Choice of gauge
style.
HOOD - Hand made in "duck" material by skilled
craftsman. Black as standard with choice of rear window size. Other
colours available at extra cost.
OTHER PARTS - Spare wheel, jack and wheel
brace.
FINAL COMPLETION - The completed car is given
a full technical inspection and alignment check before being given
a full MOT test. Please note that road tax is not included, as this
is normally arranged by the new owner prior to collection. Please
